I have been a competition prep & strength coach for many years with a number of my own issues and I have never found a more knowledgeable and competent team than Solidus. Their ability to not only assess and prescribe corrective exercises but their ability to understand and relate to top end athletes is second to none. It was my very first time to see a Myotheraphy for my shoulder that was sore almost two months ago. I was amazed how good Julius was and he managed to fix my shoulder. Great experience at Solidus. Came to Daryl with an unknown glute/hip issue from powerlifting that I had been nursing. He was able to diagnose and prescribe rehab exercises all within a one hour consult. After implementing these rehab exercises this hip injury went away almost instantly within 1-2 sessions. During this time I had also picked up a shoulder niggle to which Daryl was able to fit me in his schedule almost straight away and prescribe me rehab exercises to which this shoulder niggle went away over 1-2 sessions. His ability to coach exercises and explain to the patient what is happening was great. Definitely recommend.

How often do I need to train?

Training frequency will depend on your experience level, overall health, fitness goals, and injury. After your assessment, Solidus’ strength and conditioning coaches will determine the right training frequency for your needs. 

We’ll also design a program around your lifestyle and current training programs. For example, if you’re a tennis player who intends to increase muscle mass and strength, we’ll provide a training schedule and workload that doesn’t interfere with your regular training.

Does strength training reduce risk of injury?

Strength training is highly effective for injury prevention for many reasons. A good program can strengthen your muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones, as well as improve your flexibility, posture and balance. Strength training also increases bone density and leads to better coordination and balance, preventing falls that often occur with older people or those with balance problems.

What are strengthening and conditioning exercises?

Strength and conditioning exercises use a combination of bodyweight and weighted exercises, along with cardiovascular training to develop your strength, endurance and flexibility. Exercises are selected to include movements that support sporting activity and everyday tasks, ranging from reverse lunges using your bodyweight to squats using weight bars.

Why is there a need for a strength and conditioning coach?

Can strength training cause injuries?

Strength training is a great way to build strength and improve muscle mass, but it can be dangerous if performed incorrectly. When weights are lifted with improper technique, i.e. jerking during an exercise to lift the weight, it can cause misalignment and stress your muscles, joints and tendons. This leads to sprains and more severe injuries like muscle tears.

In addition to lousy form, overloading your muscles too quickly by adding too much weight can cause injury. Our Melbourne strength training programs incorporate adequate rest times between training sessions while adding recovery weeks where volume and intensity are decreased. Training intensity will only be increased when your body has adapted to the current demands, so progression overload is gradual.
